The Goddess Kushmanda is the fourth avtar of the Goddess Durga. This is the story of the time when there was no one in world, there wasn’t even a world that even existed. All that existed was the energy in the dark space energy or shakti itself is worshipped as the Goddess as power or the energy of the universe. This primal energy that existed before any one or anything else in the world is represented as the Goddess Kushmanda. In sankrit the word “Ku” means “Little”, “Oshima” means “Heat” and “Anda” means “Egg”. So, the name Kushmanda is the “Cosmic Egg” or the seed of creation through energy which brought this universe in to existence. It is said before anything existed in the world The Goddess Kushmanda smiled and created the universe through the radiance of her smile. Once the universe was created Kushmanda then created three divine being with each of her right, left and the third eyes this being where Mahakali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Sarasvati and they represented the basic energies of the universe. The Goddess Maha Kali represented the heat, The Goddess Maha Lakshmi through her radience represented light and the Goddess Maha Saraswati represented the sound further through the Goddesses Maha kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswati. Kushmanda now created tri murti of Gods which are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and she also created the three devi’s which are the companion of these Gods Sarasvati, Lakshmi and Kaali. Once the Goddess Kushmanda created these devine beings and the basic energies of the universe she took seat in the centre of the Sun and it is said that she is the one who provides energy to Sun to provide heat and light to the planets. Thus the Goddess Kushmanda is the creator of every thing in the universe and she represents the primal energy of the universe.
